Vehicles as Bone Sculptures

My affection for skeletons, those tiny sculptures we wear inside, is well-known so how could I help but dig these sculptures by Jitish Kallat? Kallat re-envisions the structures that lurk beneath the surfaces of familiar vehicles, positing organic bones. The results both make the objects more personable as well as a bit more creepy. It would be one thing to hop on top of Ignitaurus, 2008 which resembles a motorcycle as bull. Bull-riding is a thing, right? one that requires a bit of courage. But Aquasaurus, 2008, a bony water truck, especially the leering grin of its toothy grille, might make me think twice before climbing aboard. Oddly enough, the belly of this transport, the roomy capacity of its rib canopy feels rather peaceful.
