Ouch! My apologies. I just saw a link to the book on another site and thought it was too cool to pass up even if it WAS just a picture book. I PROMISE I’ll pick up a copy next time I’m at Borders. Just the cover alone gave me a hankering for that fun old style art. I recall *very carefully* sticking my entire collection of Wacky Package stickers in order on the inside of my bedroom door. I left spaces in case I ever got the “rare” ones. It was my pride and joy… ’til I hit puberty.

Ah, you have to read the text to get the rest of the stuff you want- but it’s there in spades due to my collaborator, Steve Tatham. The biggest mistake people make is just thinking this is a picture book- and I made the pictures! Check it out!

A single vampire, like Dracula of the movie for example, while frightening, is also a bit sad: a being without a friend or community, alone, removed from history, immortal yes, but at what cost.

On the other hand, it’s hard to conjure anything like sympathy for the large, well-organized, scrupulous vampire community that schedules a visit to Barrow during the month of dark. Totally scary!

Agreed that packs of monsters are worse than single ones. But Dracula had that harem of 3 totally sexy “brides” who lived in the crypt under Castle Dracula. As soon as he moved into Carfax Abbey, he started gathering another set of groupies. If Dracula is sad, IMHO, it’s because he doesn’t know the bittersweet flavor that mortality gives to all human actions, NOT because he’s lonely. I mean, geesh, his hangouts are like the Playboy Mansion.
